I just bought myself a 21 pack of these from Quality Save in the Chorlton Arndale Centre.
What a fantastic little bar they are. Crunchy, moreish, bad for you certainly and unique. The perfect mid afternoon hit.
Anyone any idea when they first came out? I'd guess around 1988? As part of my research I came across the attached thread which is packed full of useful info and alternative opinion too.

I used to love a gold bar. Not had one for ages though. I now want one.

A 21 PACK OF GOLD BARS....!!! That is a very dangerous move. Will they last the weekend?

Are these the deliciously sweet but short lasting bars that you have to nibble the chocolate from the edges before attacking the biscuit?

I reckon two/three max in one day or you spoil the hit
You can nibble all round but you can also use them as a large, square straw but biting both chocolate ends off exposing the crunch.

I saw 'Gold Bars' and thought you meant these gold-foil wrapped 'choccy-porn' jobbies from my youth...

Gold bars are basically biscuit covered in caramac. Delicious.

Not my favourite chocolate bar, but best wrapped has to be Toblerone, still very traditional.
As a kid i used to love unwrapping Caramac with the gold wrapper under the paper.

I used to love Gold bars when I thought they were white chocolate. The moment I discovered they were actually caramel flavoured, I never ate another one.

I’m not a caramelist but clearly my subconscious is.

A six pack of Gold bars often doesn’t manage to make it home on the train from Reading after work.

Occasionally, I manage to make it last 2 days.

I try not to buy them too often but they’re my current guilty pleasure. It helps me get over the fact that I have to work in Reading!

At what point do you decide it’s not worth leaving any for later?

If I have a box of chocolates I start by eating a couple as I open the box, then pick 4 to have with my coffee, they go pretty quickly so I dip in for another 4. At that point I have to decide whether to finish the layer which I do because there’s only a few left. At this point I’m feeling sick.

Usually once I’ve decided the Wi-fi really isn’t going to work that day so I may as well just read a book ........

..... and eat chocolate.
