Rewind to November 1970, and a video news clip of how authorities in Oregon disposed of a rotting whale carcass which had become beached. It's a sad story with no dignity for the whale, but... (naughty boy), I can't help giggling at it.

Sorry, you're going to need Facebook to see it, as I don't know how to embed or download a video from there.

"The plan was to blow it up into small enough pieces that seagulls, crabs and other scavengers would soon clean up the mess..." it said

Well I can tell you now, times have changed. Put the whale on a large ice cream cone and a solitary seagull will have it away in 30 seconds flat.

Also, imagine calling up your car insurance company...

"Oh, Hi... my car's been written off. The roof is smashed to pieces. Can I make a claim?"

"Certainly Sir. How did it happen?"

"A huge piece of flying whale fell on it"

Health and safety gone mad. We should be allowed to do that with road kill.
