Won't post the whole thing here, but relates to how our new aggression could mean that there is no place for Gross.

This can most easily be seen in their primary defensive stats. Last season they finished 16th in tackles and 10th in interceptions. This year so far they’re third in tackles and first in interceptions. Those are gigantic leaps.

Dale Stephens’ tackle and interception numbers are up 18% and 32% respectively; for Davy Pröpper it’s 24% and 53%; Anthony Knockaert checks in at an impressive 93% and 56%. But Gross’s tackles and interceptions are both almost exactly the same as last season. It’s just not his game.

Great article and bears out what we’re seeing......in particular Gross visibly nowhere near as effective as last season, Bissouma looking far more aggressive and involved when he’s on.

Good read; do you build a team around the best player or develop possibly a quicker more dynamic team? You Shirley have to diversify and have a dynamic team moving forward! I'm not sure if there is a third way here integrating him in this style!

This bears out what Bruno said after the Nantes game, that the training has been around more targeted pressing, such as knowing when to press and when to drop a bit deeper. Press in packs seems to be our plan this season and against lower Prem teams this could well open up more chances (such as against Fulham we had a few chances from the pressing) but against someone like City, it could be very dangerous and leave us open to the counter if we have 3 or 4 of our players all in one part of the pitch.

However I'm loving the new style and hope it's rewarded with more points on the road...starting with Saints!

Gross was instrumental in Duffy's goal against the red filth, though. It was his corner in the first place and then his ball back in that was touched on by Knockaert for Duffer to score.Assists are a funny stat. As was mentioned in the 365 article, Bissouma's run was vitally important in creating space for Murray's first goal against Fulham, but he gets no statistical credit for it.

Agree the football so far this season (Watford aside) has been really exciting to watch and players are putting so much effort on the pitch. I hope it works for getting results. Good to see that CH is confident enough with the squad this season to give it a real go.
