Have you set the language to UK English? It will default to US English if you do not specify.

- try pressing the number lock key if the laptop has a number pad
- or try pressing the ctrl and shift keys at the same time

Have you checked you’ve got the correct driver for the trackpad? Try plugging in usb mouse and disabling the trackpad entirely and seeing if that resolved the issue.

Sorry I do not understand that.

1) plug in a usb mouse
2) go to control panel and open device manager
3) find the touchpad, possibly listed under input devices or touch input.
4) right click and select disable this device
5) see if same problem still happens
6) if it does it’s not the touchpad, if it fixes it go to the laptop manufacturers website and find the newest driver for the model of laptop/os
7) DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY OF ABOVE IF YOU DONT HAVE A USB MOUSE PLUGGED IN AS YOU COULD POTENTIALLY LOSE ACCESS TO THE LAPTOP IF YOU DISABLE THE TRACK PAD WITHOUT ONE.

Many thanks I will try that. If it is relevant I have attached a mouse via USB and this has typed ok.

I cannot find how to disable the touch pad but leaving the mouse connected seems to be working and I can still use either that or the touchpad.
