I think one of the reasons a minutes applause was introduced into English football grounds for similar tributes was because English football fans couldn't be trusted to maintain a collective silence for a whole minute so to keep silent for 43 minutes during those circumstances is quite impressive especially when you consider that Genoa scored twice during those 43 minutes.
