Has to be Borderline, got to number 56 in the UK charts in 83 and flopped!!

It was then released in 86 and got to number 2, by then she was an International star..

Maybe I'm sounding old, but the early stuff was best, Like a Virgin, Into the Groove, Crazy for You, Material Girl...

Like a Prayer, I've always liked the way she's used controversy to seek publicity and the Daily Mail etc have been outraged enough to ensure continual promotion of her.

Holiday - bought the Album as soon as it came out, after hearing the single in Brighton clubs. Great production by John Jellybean Benitez.

Always liked Papa don't preach, because it reminded me of a girlfriend at the time (right down to the leather jacket) but it probably has to be



Because no matter how many times you watch the video, you always think she is going to come out of that dress

You could make a case for any of Into the Groove, Borderline, Express Yourself, Like a Prayer, Material Girl,Lucky Star, Dress you Up - but I've gone for Papa Don't Preach because it's ****ing brilliant in every way.

Basically any of her hits before 1990 are solid gold.

Ray of Light and Confessions were her best albums.

'You'll See' is my favourite single track, a haunting song. There are so many though.

Not so keen on the earlier stuff these days.

I still remember her very first UK tv appearance as a total unknown on The Tube in 1984. I said at the time that she had something about her and was destined for better things. I certainly didn't envisage a pop career in excess of thirty years. I"ve never particularly been a fan myself but there's no denying she knows what she's doing and she's good at what she does. Here's the clip of what started it all in 1984 from The Tube of the young unknown Madge (filmed at The Hacienda).

Edit: Just read this related article. Although that performance remains ingrained in the memories of many Madonna fans (and non fans) it appears to have been erased from her own memory as she has no recollection of it.

I loved her version of American Pie. In true Madge fashion chose a song to cover which was bound to cause controversy and have the purists up in arms, but I think she covered it superbly.
