Received an email yesterday from the following source,

donotreply@communications.sa

I havn't opened it and put it in my recycle bin

The text displayed under the email heading says

Your new account statement is available
This email is intended for (my full name including first and middle names).

I have not set any new accounts up lately

Any ideas, is it a scam or phishing email, id theft?

Definitely sounds like a scam/phishing attempt.

Thanks Frutos thats what I thought, it bothers me that it has my full name in it. So just delete it then?

If you open a scam attachment, it will probably infect your PC and you'll be in trouble. If I get something like that that I'm not expecting, I just delete it straight away.

Report to Action Fraud as well, which takes but a couple of minutes and helps the authorities with statistics and to focus resources on the most important threats. Alternatively, if you use Hotmail, there's an option to report it as a phishing email with just one click.

ive had something similar and a large up lift in spam, specifically relating to holiday and car hire bookings. which as i have not booked a holiday is especially odd. more to the point, this is all going to my "genuine" email that only a few companies have details for. with GDPR around same time I suspect some organisation sold on details.

There's nothing wrong with opening these emails. Just don't click anything inside or download any attachments.

If I get one I just type it into a search engine. You'll always see red flags if folk have experience.

Yes im using chrome , but have no idea what the http bit means .

http is the protocol for the web. its brother https is "secure". Google in their infinite wisdom decided that any site with user input, therefore potentially providing sensitive user/password information, must use the secure form. so if its http they'll they throw up a warning.

There is, sometimes they have an identifier on one of the images inside it which will report back their servers that the email has been opened so they know your email address is correct and that you read spam.
