We have a 7 seater that we take the (removable) seats out and use for camping. Insurance company are fine with it. It is not re-registered as a "motor caravan".

Do we have to put all of the seats back in for MOT test or can we leave it as if we never want to use the back seats again?

Tried loads of documents on the VOSA/gov MOT websites but they are very vague.

Any definite answers gratefully received.

I know a couple of people who took the rear seats out of 4x4s. They also removed the seatbelts and they were ok with the mot.

I'd suggest asking the garage when you book the moT

Maybe we'll have an expert along in a minute.

But failing that, just take it for the MOT, and if they tell you you have to put the seats back in, put them back in.

I have children's car seats in my car every time I take it for an MOT. They never check those seats or seatbelt but simply note on the paperwork that they were unable to test due to child's car seat and pass the MOT

Just got back from the MOT station, and to quote the man....."leave them out. Easier for you and less work for us. You'll just get an advisory to say they couldn't be tested".

Excellent news. Thanks all for your replies.
