[Travel] Most Distance Travelled By Car In One Day

done the Dieppe run from Toulouse and vice versa quite a few times,only one way mind,which is around 600 miles

last week I travelled to Nantes and back in the same day,clocking up around 660 miles

thinking this is probably the most I've ever done in a day

but to my surprise,Brighton to Newcastle and back is a staggering 690 miles!

Back in the days when I was a fisherman we were having a crew change. I was on the boat in a tiny harbour just below Cape Wrath called Kinlochbervie and the lads coming up to change over hired a tiny car (may have been a Ka) drove from Bournemouth to KLB and we managed to get it back again with 10 minutes to spare out of the 24 hours they’d hired it for. The bloke at Hertz couldn’t believe the tiny car he’d given out the day before had just come back with 1500 miles added to the clock.

Apart from that, overnight from Marseille to Calais to get a 7am ferry after England vs Tunisia in the WC.

Drove from Brighton to Inverness and back. Not sure how many miles but it took all day and returned at 6am

Riyadh to Damascus about 1,000 miles in under 24 hours with naps and two borders but started at 10pm so technically over 2 days. Very little traffic on road. Had a danger w*** at 70mph out of boredom.

Family holiday to Bayeux. Driving back to Calais. 327km.

Roughly 10km from Calais we had a call from the hotel to say we’d left our passports there.

So the 300km trip 3 times, and then Dover to Brighton. 1000km, so about 600 miles. :facepalm:

Sharjah, U.A.E. to Doha, Qatar and then back to Dubai, in 1978. We were moving house but when we got to the border with Doha they wouldn't let us in as our paperwork for the car was not in order so we had to turn round and go back to Dubai. Best part of 1,400 km in one day, with a car full of furniture and pets! Mainly desert roads in those day as well.

One way journey: Aberdeen to Bristol, which Google Maps says is 506 miles.

There-and-back journey: Worthing to Darlington and back for football which is 636 miles.

Guildford to John O'groats to Lands End to Guildford. More than 24 hours I think (just) and 3 drivers. Only stopped to refuel / toilet breaks. About 1700 miles if my memory serves me right. Utter madness to celebrate my mates elderly Renault 18 estate approaching ( and passing during the journey ) the 200,000 mile mark.

Kingston to Swansea to Aberdeen to Dover to catch the ferry to ZeBrugge. approx 1300 miles in my bosses new Volvo 240 Have done all the long away trips tp Carlisle, Nerwcastle etyc from Worthing many times in my yoiunger days,.

Bruggen > Marseille > Cagliari
Truthfully only did 680 miles from Bruggen to Marseille in an RAF artic, took the overnight ferry from Marseille to Porto Torres.
Then the next day drove down to Cagliari.

It must also be remembered that us oldies didnt have modern cars. When I did my Swansea etc it was in a brand new Volvo 240 but the journey to away games were in my car and in most cases a MK 1 escort or Morris Oxford but 1 was in a 15 year old CA Bedford Van.

One way journey was Worthing to Fort William in just under 10 hours with a couple of fuel stops which is around 574 miles according to Google, return trip was Peacehaven to Newcastle last year which is just over 700 miles.
