Terrible news. A class act on and off the field - Wales will miss him.
Was it the relentless impact (literally) of tackles? The players are getting faster, heavier and possessing greater power.

that ....when you look at the rugby players of 30 yrs ago and the general speed of the game compared to size of most of the elite players and the speed the game is played at today it has got to cut short the careers of most players.

I remember a “fly on the wall” documentary of the England team around the time they won the RWC in 2003. The team doctor was assessing the injuries of various players, and one in particular being Ben Kay the lock forward. The doc stated that the impact injuries suffered by Kay (and others) was the equivalent of being involved in two car crash collisions a week. Makes you think eh?
