If they get smashed in the local elections and the in fighting gets worse over Brexit, not to mention all the other stuff, the end of May by the end of May.

Just think it is ridiculous that a mistake causes so much disruption to a government department. Not prejudice to either side of the political debate, as it was same when labour were in power. This "you must resign" when mistake occurs does not hold for any continuity. How can a department function when its boss moves every 12 months (rightly or wrongly)?

The "mistake" in question was deliberately lying to parliament. Resigning is a given when you're found guilty of that.

I sort of agree, if ministers apologised much more often for their mistakes rather than spin,lie or just deny then they would be forgiven.
But unfortunately on this occasion it was beyond an apology, she dug a hole too deep, then tried to lie her way out, then blamed the civil service, then lied to the committee and then parliament.
Ministers had a last ditch attempt to save her this morning but The Civil Service have got their teeth into her and won't let go.
She probably knew there was more to be leaked as well.
It all got far beyond an apology.
Going forward, the compensation offered will be interesting.
I don't think they know what to do there either.

If this Government lasts, expect her to resurface in another ministry in about 6 months, just like the sacked Gove, the steaming turd that no matter how many times you pull the flush will not go away.

The Civil Service, with an agenda all of its own, claims another victim. Brief 'misunderstood' - "Sorry, did you mean it to be like that?" "Well, you set us targets, we met them - but not in the way you meant them" - there's civil service Sir Humphrey type mandarins (remainers to a man, determined to de-rail Brexit by any means) all over this. "Thank you for your instructions Minister - we'll work on ways to misinterpret them to make you look bad"............"You want us to expel more illegals, and you've set us targets? OK, we'll find some easy ones - not the ones you meant though".

You don't think so? In all probability then you've never been a civil servant. The Home Office didn't like Amber Rudd. They've shafted her - job done (not that I'm that bothered she's gone, mind, she's a Tory minister and not a very good one - but the way it's been done isn't that wonderful - unless you're a high ranking civil servant in the Home Office).

Exactly. The Home Office high ranking civil servants didn't like her. She's gone; job done.

Why would a remainer-dominated civil service seek to remove one of the most pro-remainer cabinet ministers? Surely, if they wanted to derail Brexit, they'd seek to keep Rudd in the Cabinet for as long as possible?

The bigger picture. They see the best way to de-rail Brexit is to de-rail the Government.
