I’ve just watched the last 30 minutes of Spain v Argentina ....and if it was a say World Cup qualifier there would probably have been three reds and more yellow cards...so why should it be different just because it was a ‘friendly’

Yes. If FIFA/UEFA want these games to be taken seriously, then they need to refereed like proper games. If they are to be of any use as World Cup warm ups, from an individual nations point of view, they need that as well.
