[Travel] Everton and Liverpool by car

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
For those travelling to Liverpool/Everton by car, the new bridge at Runcorn at the end of the M56 is now tolled. There are no barriers or toll gates, but there is number plate recognition. You must pay on-line before midnight the day after you crossed. The toll is £2 for cars each way, unless you have pre-registered. The fine for not paying is higher - £40, or £20 if you pay early. The signposting is rubbish, so don't think they haven't seen you, because they have.

The tunnels at the top of the Wirral at the end of the M53 cost £1.70 each way. Pay cash at the toll booths.

The M62 isn't tolled (yet).

You have not been charged for this information (but you will be charged to cross the Mersey).

And you will probably have to pay to park when you get there. There is a residents parking scheme in the Anfield/Goodison area. Take extra cash.

From Sussex, M6 / M62 is virtually always quicker. Runcorn Bridge brings you into South Liverpool which is really the wrong side of the city for Goodison.

I drive to Liverpool every day on the M53 (albeit from Wales not M6). Edge Lane always seems busy or being dug up.

Yes new retail development but it's clear two lanes right through now. Saturday's can be busy when Liverpool are at home but not Everton, as all the fans live in the city!

The M62 is the easy and obvious way, but as stated the final approach to Liverpool and Edge Lane can be clogged solid. Preferably I would come off the M6 earlier and go up the Wirral on the M53 through the tunnel

If you go up the M53 you could consider parking up on the Wirral and getting the train to kirkdale. I used to travel to Everton from Moreton for games when I lived up there for a year. Will save driving thru liverpool and be easier to park.
