Remember that little big city club that played at The Goldstone; Gillingham; Withdean?

Where is it now?............ Gone!!............. No longer exists!!!.............. Replaced by one of the most progressive sporting outfits in the Nation.

Confirmation today that "The Seagulls" - perhaps more appropriately - "The Phoenix" - has risen to further great heights with the announcement by the FA that - in the newly restructured 2018/9 women's game - Brighton will be playing in FA Women's Super League.

This club just keeps on making amazing decisions and commitments. That little wooden stand in the middle of the Goldstone's West Terrace in 1956 that I remember just seems a surreal dream, a old apparition.

I'm so grateful and proud.

It's a rebrand and to do it we'll have to go fully professional on crowds of less than League Two teams get and we'll have to play "home" matches at Crawley. It's great that Tony is funding this too and, apparently, is a fully separate pot of money, because without funding it wouldn't be viable.

Sorry to p**s on your fireworks. I'll be delighted if proven wrong (and it certainly has been known) but this is a move that could actually lead to fewer people attending women's games.
