[Albion] Why do we keep wearing the yellow kit?

I don’t mind the design, personally, BUT the team keeps wearing it when it’s not necessary.

A change of socks to blue would have done today, for example.

Annoying thing is: Millions of TV viewers around the world will have seen Albion for the first time this season. Surely we want the blue and white brand/identity to stick in minds?

Was particularly crazy that we changed at Man Utd.

The yellow kit will be 3rd kit next season, so the club shouldn’t be THAT desperate to flog it now, surely?

Makes you wonder if some weird agreement is made with Nike at the beginning of the season.

Anyone got a better explanation?

2 different stripes, simples for the international TV market mostly you cant make passes to players based on their socks

That has to be a prime suspect!

Although I suppose that someone will argue that he white between our stripes clashes with the white on their's! Hate to see us wearing away shirts when it's not necessary myself - I would love it if the PL changed the rules so that the away team only changed into their second (or third) kit if the referee decided there was too much of a colour clash.

Agreed.

Stoke wore red/white at the Amex. It’s Albion who keep changing unnecessarily.

Commercialism.

Yes, yes, but we can’t be THAT desperate to flog shirts which will still be around next season, surely? Madness.

UNLESS someone REALLY over-ordered I guess? Hmmmm...

I think you’ve got it there. It’s a really tasteless creation and sales are reflecting that. As for the black kit- that’s lovely.

Whatever the reason, it's nothing to do with colour clash.

Other teams change socks. We change the entire kit.

And, yes, we do have blue socks available...

Maybe as a club we have decided that although we don’t have to we prefer there being a defined difference between the kits.

Maybe when making fast counter attacks Chris wants them to be able to see clearly with a fraction of a second exactly where the players are.

The yellow is very distinctive and with the more counter attacking we play away from home there may be some research that shows its 5% easier.

Or - it could just be to sell more yellow kits as the home is running low?

Agree with you 100%. Albion's club colours are BLUE and WHITE and we should wear our blue and white stripes at every opportunity, wearing the yellow (or any other awful "away" kit) only when absolutely necessary.

Anyone think it may come down to player / team preference?

I know some teams for example, if superstitious will want to stay wearing the same kit away from home if they're unbeaten for example. I'm not apologising for the club, but it may be less to do with any marketing requirements, and might be the players themselves want to wear the yellow kit away.

It’s in the contract with Nike to wear it a certain number of times a season.

Most kit sponsorship deals for teams like ours make the sale of shirts pretty much secondary as it’s the fee we get in from Nike rather than the profit/margin on each sale therefore to protect their revenue Nike will insert clauses to make us give airtime to their designs.

Possibility, I guess. But I find this hard to believe given that a) we're wearing it for EVERY away league game (not simply a 'bit' more than usual), and b) I haven't noticed any other club doing the same.

It's more telling, I think, that the "alternative kit" is still readily available in all sizes, while the home and third kits are low in stock....

Not quite EVERY away game - we were in the black kit at Chelsea.

I wonder how many poor countries still have black and white tellyboxes? Just a thought.

It was explained earlier in the season that the Premier League decides what kit teams will wear. We happen to have an away kit that suits every away game except Watford. Stoke's away kit is blue, so they couldn't have worn that at the Amex.

I agree that our colours are Blue and White and should be worn whenever possible but have no objection to the yellow kit which I think is one of the better ones during the last 10 years.

I've often wondered why one team always wears white in NFL games. It's not as if there's any difficulty spotting the difference between, say, Kansas City red and Seahawks blue. So I suppose it's a throwback to the days of black and white TV.
