[Football] What was with the 2 chaps trying to get on the pitch and being escorted away by stewards?

After the match ended there was a tussle near the dug outs and 2 fans were on the pitch. Both got escorted away passed the away end to lots of jeering. What was that all about? I only noticed them as the stewards were bundling on top of them.

I suggest that you read the Southampton Daily Echo comments section. That should give you a fair idea of how toxic the relationship is between the fans and Pellegrino. They (Saints fans) considered last night's fixture as an absolute must win game - and they didn't. Cue the moment to get at the manager at the final whistle.

It all makes our protests against Sami Hyypia seem like a Women's Institute squabble in comparison.

'must win game for Southampton' + 'didn't win' = The end of the world for the Albion on NSC.

The Southampton fans to the left of us at the end when they were the last ones out remonstrating with their stewards that we were chanting nasty things at them – now that was funny. :lolol:

After last night's match my wife and her Saints STH friend both commented on how negative (to say the least) saints fans are..... even in the good times on occasion - and that a trip to the AMEX, where she has been with me on a number of occasions, is a much more positive supporter experience.

She predicted last night they would get booed off at half-time, which they did.

maybe there is something in this "Together" lark after all.

I was surprised at the amount of booing Soton fans gave their team. Ok, you can expect it at HT/FT, but during the game when play goes backwards? I know we get a bit shouty when things don't happen for us sometimes, but I'd never boo.

At 0-1 down: Booooooooooooooooooooooooooo
All of the first half: Booooooooooooooooooooooooo / **** off [insert player name] / FFS you **** / etc
Every misplaced pass: Booooooooooooooooooooooooo
Half time: Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
First ten minutes of second half: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - going mental when a Saints player held onto it for 2 seconds, or passed sideways
For five minutes after the equalizer: "We love Sowfamton, we do, we love Sowfamton..."
Rest of the game: Boooooooooooooooooooooooo
Final whistle: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

What a miserable way to 'enjoy' your football.

People seem to have poor memories, we had a manager who was taking us down to League 1 and we were making placards and booing

Ha I was at the back on the left and as everyone was waiting to go down the stairs those Saints fans were giving everyone around a lot of amusement. The more wound up they got the more stick they took. Then we ended up walking along the road next to them, wearing Brighton colours, and they didn't say a thing despite gesturing that they were hoping to beat us up in the stadium. Jokers!
