Almost 400 at Worthing Crematorium yesterday to say goodbye to Pipes, superb eulogy from Alan Mullery, NSC got a mention during the family speech regarding the tributes posted on here, all in all a fitting farewell to a wonderful man.

My wife spoke to an Albion STH who was going to the service and he thought there might be a couple of hundred there. The fact that there were twice as many for a man whose playing days were decades before many fans were even born says all you need to know about him and the very high regard in which he was (and is) held by fans of a certain age. The size of the gathering makes me feel both proud and humbled to be part of this wonderful club of ours. I hope the day went some way towards easing the pain felt by the Piper family.

That is so good to hear. Loved watching Steve play back in the day. Remember being at Sunderland away back in October 1977 and seeing him and Ward score in a 2-0 win.

Great respect for a great Albion man. RIP Steve.
