Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has urged Premier League football clubs to cut ticket prices for fans.
The two-time Premier League winner said fans helped create "a lot of atmosphere" at matches helping clubs sell the TV rights.
"Use that competitive advantage to lower the price for the fans," he said.

Perhaps he should look at average attendance as a percentage of capacity. Apart from Spurs due to playing at Wembley all PL clubs are above 90% and most in high 90s. So ticket price is not an issue.

Ticket price is an issue. Higher prices encourage more tourists and penalise the 'poorer' traditional fans. Tourists buy half and half scarves, buy a shirt and are good for turnover, but they are unlikely to make for a good atmosphere.

Of course one way of cutting ticket prices would be to lower the cost to clubs on players stupidly high wages ..... I wonder if he'd be so keen then ?

Respect & all that but that is tosh :lolol:
The only clubs with large numbers of "tourists" are the likes of ManU and only then because their fanbase has so far to travel!
The single thing that would improve atmosphere is a return to significant levels of standing and for reasons economic and political I don't think that will change greatly in mine, my children's, or indeed my grandchildren's lifetimes.

Yeah, that's tosh when applied to us and most other smaller clubs, I agree. I wasn't clear, but in view of the article, I was referring to Man City. The same could be applied to other 'big' clubs. There are a lot of disappointed Brighton fans who've travelled away to places like Old Trafford and found a very poor atmosphere instead of a more vibrant one from yesteryear. I agree about the standing as well btw!

What has struck me in the Premier League is the sheer uncessary number of stewards that clubs have. Chelsea for example, when they scored loads filed out in front of us as if we where all going to charge the field. I know clubs get thousands of pounds from TV money but no wonder ticket prices are so high to pay hundreads of uncessary people.

:moo: just thousands?

...and to be frank the cost of those stewards i'd guess is minuscule compared to players wages and transfer fees

While this attitude persists fans will continue to get ripped off. Full stadiums does not translate to fair ticket prices.

Premier League clubs will never have a problem shifting tickets for the majority of games, but as a relatively small percentage of clubs' income now comes from ticket sales, does it not make sense for them to reward the fans who once propped them up financially by offering them lower prices, particularly with the ridiculous new TV deal?

Are you suggesting a 'tiered' home ticket price depending how many games you went to and when? Otherwise these 'cheap' tickets will be for JCLs, old-timers and medium term fans alike now the more attractive matches are in town.

The atmosphere at these large clubs never was as good as they made out. Anfield and alike has always been quite in the main.

Good idea , perhaps the players themselves who are earning in a week most of the people watching take a year to earn could subsidise the costs of lowering ticket prices , that probably wouldn't go down to well though i suppose , the entire football fan demographic has changed , it is not something Mr 15k a year can now just take his family to without blowing the monthly food bill , that's bollox i hear the resident pedants squeal , as we sell out almost every game , but we do so because football at many top flight clubs has become a middle class Brioche Burger bun and the sesame seeded fans in the main are simply not attending football matches anymore , you only have to look at Huddersfield £199 adult season ticket price to realise if you keep the prices as low as possible the crowd demographic is different and there is a decent atmosphere created by people who love the game and get behind their team , of course thousands have jumped upon the Udders band wagon this season but they took the decision themselves to keep it low , and i take my hat off to them for that .

If they had any sense, top clubs (who can afford it) would provide a percentage of cheaper tickets aimed at younger fans to stop entire generations growing up thinking football is a TV show.

'Mr.Kompany we are going to take your advice regards cutting ticket prices.Part of why they are so high is because teams in the Prem are paying wages of up to 300k per week so therefore we need to cut players wages down to a maximum of 50k per week. How do you feel about that?'

Fans are irrelevant. We don't even give clubs the majority of their money. We are only needed to create a good atmosphere and because a full stadium looks good on TV.We are all mugs and whilst we continue to pay high prices and always will then clubs will always charge stupid money.

Cutting ticket prices across the board is not the answer. All it would do is diminish the value of the product. Season tickets averaging £35 a game are perfectly reasonable, and stack up well compared to many other forms of entertainment. By all means clubs should offer cheap tickets for one-off games that might otherwise be unattractive though - Spurs had "just" 46,000 for our game there, which is only half full. Surely a Tuesday night just before Christmas against less attractive opposition like us was ripe for ticket price reductions.

If they had any sense, top clubs (who can afford it) would provide a percentage of cheaper tickets aimed at younger fans to stop entire generations growing up thinking football is a TV show.
This, however, I do agree with, and to be fair, our club have done an excellent job in making it happen. Family stand tickets for kids under 10 cost absolutely buttons and they're not remotely expensive for anyone under 18. It's not as if the atmosphere in the family stand is bad either.

I am not saying that the prices are good as they are, but I guess if Premier League offer low priced tickets because they get all the TV income, what happens if the club get religated? it would be odd to charge higher prices after religation. Also it could affect the teams in the lower divisions who are soley relient on matchday income. The soloution would be to spread the money more evenly through the divisions but that is a socialist attitued, and we all know what a barmy idea that is
