I saw this on Sky News today and was astounded at the figures. In China you can hire a bike for around 10p per journey and when you've finished you just dump the bike somewhere. In the road, river, on a pile or literally anywhere. Fields are full of these bikes. Watch this, it really is incredible. And soon it will come to Brighton

The same scheme has been in operation in Aberdeen for quite some time.

The principle is a good one, in that you can cycle to where you want to go to, and don't need to hunt around for an official stand, which may or may not be near to where you want to go to. Logically you could have your own cycle for 10p a trip, as cycle home, leave it outside your house, and unless someone else has used it, it is available for you too use the next day.

Just walked past one dumped in the middle of the pavement near Fleet Street. Seems to me it's not far off littering and needs to be properly controlled and licensed.
