IMHO gated is ok on toast but awful in sandwiches and is only used by cafe etc as you use a lot less cheese. I prefer sliced on anything as I like to taste the cheese.

The JCL Cheese grater wasnt invented until the 1500`s.
If sliced cheese on toast was good enough for Jesus and Alexander The Great its good enough for me.
