A few people were having a good laugh on here recently at just how desperate and pathetic the Croydon rag is when attempting to find some sort of Palace link to any football story, however tenuous.
This usually sees a headline that overstates the interest of the story by many hundreds of times. And today is a classic of the genre.
Under the headline 'Ex-Crystal Palace defender from Croydon receives England call-up', and the sub-heading 'Remember Eagles defender? He's set to represent the Three Lions'.
Who is this, you wonder. Did Harry Winks have some Palace connection. Well, err, no.
This is about Maidstone United's Alex Wynter, who has been called up to the England non-league C team.
Wynter made, wait for it, no league starts and no sub appearances for Palace. None. Not one. No FA Cup starts either. And just one League Cup start.
What a victory for Palace. Talk about a slow week.
