A busy station in south London was evacuated as police investigated a "suspect package".

East Croydon station was closed while British Transport Police investigated, causing chaos for rush hour commuters.

Officers later said the item had been declared non suspicious and the station would be reopened.

Chief inspector Bigun was quoted as saying "after taking an anonymous phone call from a man called Roy (we presume that is an alias), a full shut down of the area was activated. The said gentleman had suggested that the suspicious package contained Crystal Palaces first poinst of the season......"

"Whilst we tread all threats of this nature seriously, then our active surveillance units soon pointed out that they've been enduring these false alarms of points spotting for the last seven weeks and so our officers were soon placed on stand down, treating the matter as a hoax".

"CCTV images of an elderly confused man with a bemused smile are still being scrutinised and after the release of those images, then we hope that a family member will be able to come forward and identify the said Woy in question. We would also like his assistance in the wider wasting of the publics time in the Selhurst Park area too as the two incidents may be linked".

Rather like Crystal Palace the opening post in this thread has failed to find the back of the net.
