Do I need a tv with a USB port or can you get an adapter to plug into a HDMI port ?

Helps having a strong wi-fi signal as well. No other connections available, only wi-fi.
Great little gadget.

Be aware. Firesticks use a huge amount of data running in the background. At the time I had a broadband contract with limited data and it was a surprise when my data usage shot up.
If you have unlimited then there is no problem.

If your screen has a USB port, you can power the firestick from it, if not you need to plug in to mains.
