Start delayed by wet outfield. Inspection at 1pm. Sun is out so hopefully a start soon after.

YJB to open for England with Hales, well deserved although feel a bit sorry for Roy.

Wet? in Manchester? in September? whatever next??

Wet in Manchester is the default all year tbf.

Seems like they're being a bit overcautious actually. Just a few damp patches but run ups not affected.

What a ridiculous series. We're 3 days from Autumn and attempting to play ODIs in the North of England - it's such a short-sighted decision to try and shoe-horn these internationals in, and simply extends the cricketing year unnecessarily.

If you are serious about winning the Ashes in Australia then you surely give the likes of Stokes and Bairstow the maximum time to rest?

No reason not to play these kind of games at grounds like Hove IMO.

The players even warmed up and played football on the outfield earlier.

It's not changing at all (according to Bumble and others) so all this hanging around seems totally pointless. They should have just started it at 12.30 or called it off (which looks all the more likely now). Crowd aren't going to be happy, it's blazing sunshine there.....

The ECB will want some form of game, otherwise they have to give back 100% of the ticket cost.

This game could be out of sight with another 20 overs of these two.
