A local evening with a Premier League chairman

Glancing through the programme for this month's Hurstpierpoint festival I couldn't help noticing 'An evening with David Gold'. I'd imagine that the joint chairman of West Ham has got an interesting rags to riches tale to tell and there's a strong Albion link there - back in the noughties, just after he stood down at Birmingham City, he was strongly linked with a rescuing investment in the Albion. There was talk of him taking over from Dick Knight. The Argus and NSC was full of it at the time and I know for a fact that DK drove up to Gold's house near the M25 for a chat.

Gold has done a similar gig before - he has strong connections with Hurstpierpoint - but it would be interesting to know what actually happened, especially as his club is now a rival of ours. He might also offer an insight into what it takes to fight and survive in the Premier League.

If anyone else fancies a look it's on Thursday 28th September, I think at the local school. There's a website - hurstfestival.org
