I think the real moral question is why the OP saw the coypu "this morning", but waited until 2:38pm (local time) to seek guidance. If he's happy enough to leave it trapped for at least 3 hours, I posit he's not really that bothered about its welfare.

Ok I did a potentially bad thing. I couldn't bare it. It's a hot day it was in a metal trap it was just cruel. I let it out. I reset the trap to hopefully make it look like something had the bait and didn't trip it.

I hope we're not kicked out.

The owners had gone out btw.
