Not seen this posted anywhere but excuse me if I missed it... Gazetta Dello Sport in Italy reported over the weekend we made a 'rich offer' for Inter Milan Striker Stefan Jovetic.

Big time signing if we could pull it off...

Naylor said No before.

But maybe 0 points so far has put things into focus.

express claims doesn't want to join Newcastle as wants to join Seville. If he doesn't want to join Newcastle then hard to see how we are in with a chance, unless we are blowing everyone out the water money wise

Looks the sort of player who could do well for us though

I wonder if this is the one Barber has referred to on BT sport the other day. If so , sounds like a lot of eggs are in this basket.

Considering we're looking at bidding big for him. His goal scoring record doesn't look too impressive.

2006- 2008 Partizan 51 apps. 13 goals
2008–2013 Fiorentina 116 apps. 35 goals
2013–2016 Manchester City 28 apps. 8 goals
2015–2016 Inter Milan (loan) 26 apps.6 goals
2017 Sevilla (loan) 21 apps.6 goals

If we're serious about competing in this League, then those are the kind of wages we are going to have to cough up for a quality striker.

100% this.

If we want someone good enough, we have to pay the going rate. No getting around that. If he provides goals that keep us up then it's money well spent.

When you compare it to what we have then it looks *insert superlative here*.

not quite so simple. in the midst of last weeks contracts news I believe a number of players at the club are sitting on terms where they will match the highest earner. I would make that 5 ish players that would get a £40k pw pay rise if we were to sign Jovetic.

That record looks better when you consider he hasn't always played as an out-and-out striker. Also, quite a few of those were substitute appearances. Last season he made 12 starts for Sevilla, scoring 6 goals and getting 4 assists. At Man City he averaged a goal every 144 minutes.

Not entirely sure that needs a new contract. If the contract says that they match the highest earner then that is what happens. You don't issue a new contract with an extension every time you sign a player on more money.
