They've hit the Black Country with the club's, now it's Southampton!
Too bloody close for comfort :(

English clubs Aston Villa, Birmingham, Wolves, Reading and West Brom already have Chinese investors, as do Italian side AC Milan, who were bought for £628m earlier this year.

Saints are 25-1 to go down. That could be a great bet if they are a bunch of mentalists who upset everything at the club.

If Southampton are worth £260m (if 80% of the value is £210m) then how come Ashley values Newcastle at £400m? Surely, Southampton are better established PL club, one with an excellent academy - one of the best in the country. Perhaps El Pres or one the accountants on here can tell me why Newcastle is worth more, because I can't see it

Funnily enough, there was a book review in the Sunday Times yesterday on "The Billionaires Club" by James Montague (review by John Arlidge). He specifically mentions the growing Chinese involvement in football clubs, all down to Chinese investors trying to curry favour with Xi Jinping, who's a big football fan and wants to make China "a footballing superpower". Wonder what will happen when he's no longer in charge? May not be immediate, but these guys certainly have no affinity for the club, the fans or the history and maybe they'll get tired of football and try another avenue into his favour? Shifting sands...

We need laws like the Germans that stop this sort of shit.

but we dont. however, there is nothing to stop a consortium of fans buying a club.

Ashley didnt get where he is by valuing anything realistically.

Different culture - we are a very open country so sell Grandma if the $ is right, hence we have more inward investment than any other European country (see http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business...p-destination-foreign-investment-financial/); Germany is more inward looking and self reliant. There are economic arguments both ways: Germany's Mittelstands (large family SMEs) account for a lot of their economic success: stable, organically growing, long-term thinking and that is reflected in a way they develop their sports too. A more inwardly open economy can more readily absorb new ideas and trends (in this case football club owners who appear to know next to FA about what they are buying).

Having just had a peep at the Saints message board, they all seem quite pleased that it's happened.

We're into the realms of careful what you wish for.

I'm struggling to come up with a club that is/was successful under a Far Eastern owner or consortium, the exception being Leicester City of course. It's at moments like this that any self respecting Albion fan will say "Thank goodness for Tony Bloom."
