Yes, but (I believe) he was a writer/musician more than an actor, think acting possibly paid the bills, but don't quote me as I'm often wrong!

Saw him stage about 35 years ago, in a two-hander with Julie Walters (it was one of his own plays). He was a powerful actor, particularly live.
