Boxing Titles

Just watched the boxing on Channel 5 - Josh Taylor v Ohara Davies which wasn't a bad contest for terrestial TV.

I've learnt stuff tonight though as one of the titles at stake was the WBC Silver Belt which Taylor took off Davies.

In the words of Peter Kay "What's that all about?" - I'd never heard of a Silver Belt - it was a good contest tbh but I'm concerned as a sometime fight fan (but mostly historically) that titles are watered down.

It means nothing. The WBC get a sanctioning fee for a supposed 'title fight' and the promoter can use the belt to promote the fight.

From memory the 'Silver Belt' gives you an automatic top 10 or 20 ranking in the WBC but is not recognised as a World Title.
