Albion rookie Robert Sanchez is set to be handed a chance to shine at the launch of preparations for the Premier League.

The 19-year-old Spanish goalkeeper could be included in the party heading to Austria on Saturday for a week-long training camp and the opening friendly against German side Fortuna Dusseldorf on July 14.

New No.1 Maty Ryan from Valencia does not report back until after the Austria trip, having only just finished his season with Australia at the Confederations Cup in Russia.

And with Christian Walton poised to complete a loan move to Wigan or Portsmouth, Sanchez is lined up to accompany Niki Maenpaa and veteran Casper Ankergren.

Boss Chris Hughton revealed: “At this moment we’ll take Niki, Casper and Robert Sanchez.

“Christian will be going out on loan, so the question mark is whether he will come or not.”

Albion have high hopes for former Levante youth Sanchez, a product of the club’s European scouting network.

He has risen from the under-18’s and was outstanding in Albion’s exit from the Checkatrade Trophy at Coventry last season.

Finn Maenpaa, understudy to the departed David Stockdale for the past two seasons, has agreed a new contract and Ankergren, 37, is now combining training, coaching and scouting duties under the guidance of goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts.

Albion still plan to sign another goalkeeper alongside Ryan and Maenpaa, with Stockdale now at Birmingham and Walton on the brink of another loan move.

Meanwhile, the club are working towards cutting their losses on errant Dutch striker Elvis Manu, who has entered the final year of his contract and does not figure in Hughton’s plans.

The chances of striking a record-busting deal for Werder Bremen’s energetic Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney are considered unlikely, due to the German club’s reluctance to sell and the price it would take to prise him away.

Worthing
I thought it was weird when Naylor reported last Friday about Delaney, now it seems it was nothing short of a dick move getting peoples hopes up.

It was never commented on by the club, so, it wasn't them getting people's hopes up. I thought we would have learnt by now, unless a player is pictured holding the shirt up, it ain't kosher.
