According to the Argus, suspicious package left out the cadet centre.

AROUND 100 homes have been evacuated as police investigate reports of a suspicious package left outside the gates of the Cadet Centre.

Officers have placed a 100 metre cordon around the item in Marmion Road, Hove, after they were called at 6pm.

Around 100 homes in the Stoneham Road and surrounding area have been evacuated as a precaution.

A quick search for "Stoneham Road Hove" leads to a Sun article saying they blew it up:

THE bomb squad has carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package “deliberately” left outside a cadet hall in Hove tonight.

Dozens of homes have been evacuated and the area is on lockdown after the package was discovered outside the Cadet Centre in Marmion Road, Hove, at 6pm tonight.

'A police spokesman told BrightonandHoveNews.org the box “appears to have been placed outside the cadet centre deliberately”.'

Wonder how they reached that conclusion.

That wording seemed strange to me too. Could just have been a cardboard box full of donations of some kind.
