I thought it'd be interesting to have a look back at Chris' previous signings when managing in the Premier League. He has had 3 seasons buying players there, 1 with Newcastle and 2 with Norwich.

Looking at the past I reckon we'll be looking to:

1. Bag a couple of frees from this list (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/endendevertraege/wettbewerb/GB1) Obviously the top of that list is made up of players way our of our league (Cazorla, Navas, Zlatan etc. :lolol:). EDIT Perhaps some players from relegated Premier League teams - someone like Jermaine Defoe would seem like an ideal signing.

2. Pick up some top level Championship players from the past season. Tom Cairney I know has been mentioned by a few, his availability will depend a lot on what Fulham do in the play offs. Perhaps we'll be the team to try and sign Will Hughes in the Premier League. Pontus Jansson seems to be highly rated at Leeds. I'm sure there will be a lot of Championship players we're looking at.

3. Try and get lucky with some young up and coming players from Ligue 1 or the Eredivisie (Hopefully not any more Manus!). When I mean get lucky I'm sure we'll do a lot of due diligence on any signing but with these sorts of signings it seems you can never be sure how successful they'll be. Does the NSC hive have any names to throw in to the hat?

4. A standout performer from the Scottish Premier League. Moussa Dembele is a wonder kid and way out of our reach, perhaps Scott Sinclair or someone like Liam Boyce who has scored over 20 goals for mid table Ross County (although it's very hard to take this League seriously!)

5. A wild card signing from the MLS or Latin American leagues.

EDIT 6. A couple of high quality loans from a Premier League team such as Tammy Abraham.

Does Hughton get much say as we have a recruitment team ? No idea who was responsible at Norwich for signings.

I think the recruitment team identify targets based on the managers requirements then the manager says yes or no

That's a good point. The chief scout was a Scottish bloke named Ewan Chester (who I believe also joined the Albion in 2015 before going back for a second stint at Birmingham). From my very limited research it doesn't seem that Norwich had a director of football or similar so I presume that the signings were under Hughton's authority. He obviously had a good relationship with Ewan as he took him from Birmingham to Norwich to the Albion.

Michaël Seri, Ricardo Pereira and Wylan Cyprien have had good seasons at Nice. Might be under the radar enough for us even though they're having a stand out season in lige 1. Their goalkeeper Cardinale is highly rated too. Monaco are only meant to be letting a couple of players go and

Alarmingly Ricky van Wolfswinkel is the joint second top scorer in the Eridivisie with 18 goals...

Hakim Ziyech from Ajax would be immense.

I'd guess Roger and Joselu, 26 year old strikers at the top of the Spanish second division scoring chart with 21 goals a piece are possible targets judging by Hemed and Ulloa in the past.

Think the Spanish leagues are ones we've definitely been keeping an eye on. Wouldn't be surprised if the club looked at those in the La Liga a bit more now, someone like Gerard Moreno from Espanyol would be ideal.

I think Leroy Fer and Michael Turner are/were all good players. Also Tiote for Newcastle.

Would also add Jonas Gutierrez, Robert Snodgrass and possibly even Javier Garrido in as he was impressive in the first season he had with Norwich. Looking at those signings Hughton has made though, there definitely seems to be a certain type of player that he goes for, 'Big' name players definitely seem to be shunned, in favour of players who are underrated / under the radar.

It does, give an insight into type of players we can expect to see brought in and there's similarities between Knockaert and Hatem Ben Arfa.

Oi back of the queue, I've been touting Roger Marti since before the January window.
He's most definitely direct competition for the Baldock spot with an 8m euro buy out clause.

I had a gut feeling CH liked to shop for British players in British leagues, this thread pretty much confirms it.
Deals like RVW isn't going to change his mind anytime soon.

Well, Ricky van Wolfswinkel is a black mark against him in the transfer business - but then again, Sir Alex Ferguson signed Juan Sebastian Veron and Massimo Taibi!
