That's a real shame, was going over to my in-laws in Woodingdean for bbq. Might go to the rave instead :rave:

Yes, tried to go up Falmer Road, on our way to the Racecourse this morning, and had to do a Uturn by Village Way. We then went down Lewes Road and up Coombe Road.

Let's hope the road is cleared for tomorrow.

This seems a complete over reaction by the police.

Really ?

Are you at the scene of this and can tell us what is going on ?

No. But I'm willing to bet that they do not need to totally lock down a road and a vital artery due to a few people dancing up in the hills. Raves are at most a nuscience and by the police's own admission there's not been a single complaint by the public. Who's the victim?

On that logic, they should shut every road in the city centre on a Friday and Saturday night for all the drink drivers.
Raves are normally very peaceful friendly events, unless they've changed from the one's I used to go to 20 years ago. The police should just leave them to it.

I might change my opinion if they are still there tomorrow though:guns:

Agree Raves are normally peacefull and friendly...... However you`d let them drive drunk and drugged up..........They also are on somebodies land..Do you think they`ll clear up after themselves.

By all means try and reduce illegal driving but I think the point is that the police response is disproportionate to this specific issue and also inconsistent with the approach used elsewhere and with other sections of society.

How dare these b@stards have fun!

Quite. What's the definition of a LEGAL rave? And all a throwback to a typically crappy Thatcherite clampdown, in this case The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which, lest we forget, criminalised the playing of music "wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats". You REALLY couldn't make it up.

I would disagree, they closed the road to stop the rave getting any bigger, let the attendees get on with it, and have thier fun without trying to close it down. These things CAN (not always by a long way) quickly get out of hand. The problems that can be caused are the damage to the land, the mess left behind, the noise disturbance to farm animals in lambing and calfing time, plus if left to go on for a couple of days the noise nuscience to residents- do you recall the one by Devils Dyke a few years ago, went on for a couple days I recall, and the police were slated for NOT closing it down. Thery are in a no win situation here, but seem to have dealt with it, and it now appears to be slowly winding down
