Bathroom mirror - drill or stick?

Morning NSC

Before I'm 'released' to enjoy a day's soccerball, I've been tasked with fitting a bathroom mirror.

Always keen to spot a shortcut, I'd like to avoid the ballache of drilling through tiles and probably cracking them in the process - so thought about sticking it on instead.

With this in mind I thought I'd ask the deep pot of DIY knowledge of NSC if this is a good solution and, specifically, recommendations for a good adhesive that won't deliver the mirror onto my head in a few moths time.

Yours in anticipation,
Stoichkov

No Sticking it's a crime , before you drill just place some tape over the tile you intent to drill , start the hole very slowly and remember to reverse the drill action on withdrawal . This may sound like a scene from a Ron Jeremy movie but it works .

If you're drilling through the tiles, lightly mark the area in which you want to drill, then put at least three layers of masking tape over top, then drill carefully, without cracking said tile.
Depending on weight of mirror, I'd always drill

Just a flat mirror onto tiles then an adhesive will do, if it has any weight to it then I'd opt for drill

How big is it?. If it's just the glass sticking to a wall, You need to use mirror adhesive from a caulk tube. Other adhesives Will take off the film from back of mirror.
Depending upon size/weight, can hold it in position with duct tape.

Like all good DIY jobs put it off as along as possible ..hate for you to be in A&E while the Wolves game is on

Put off for as long as possible, until the missus really starts nagging. Because if you do this now, you know that it will just mean that there's another thing that she moves to the top of the list for you to do. Whereas if you delay as long as possible, the second piece of work/nagging is also delayed, putting the third thing on the list even further away, and so on.

Tell her that in your over-excited state about this afternoon you wouldn't be able to hold the drill straight, and it would be a poor job. And as we can't be 'mathematically certain' until Monday, you can extend that excuse over the weekend. Then you'll have a hangover from 'too much celebrating'. And then you'll be back at work. Thereby successfully delaying it for at least a week or two.....

I remember my dad taking the tiles off the surround to the taps for the kitchen sink, in order to mend a crack in the wall back in 1974. Seven years later they were still off. Classic loafing. You know it makes sense. :lolol:

Drill it is then. Couple of nods for sticking but I can sense the proper option is to get the drill out! Good old NSC though - my go to place for DIY sense. Football, less so.

If they are ceramic tiles with a glaze over terracotta colour base, normal drills are fine. If they are modern, tough porcelain tiles, you'll need specialist drill bits.

I've recently added a mirror in the cloakroom, approx 800mm x 400mm, and a glass splashback behind the kitchen hob which is approx 1200mm x 800mm. In both cases I had options for screw holes or glue. I opted for the glue option and as long as you get the right stuff and follow the instructions it's fine.

Though really we need to know more about this mirror.
May I suggest twatting in a six inch nail with a club hammer then hanging mirror wonky by some frayed string.
Save you some jobs in the future.

Work out where you want to drill, then tap the spot with the point of a nail so that the drill bit gets purchase.
Use a masonry bit in the drill, but turn the hammer action off, once through the tiles put the hammer action back on to drill the brick/block wall.
Done it plenty of times and never had a problem.
Sticking is for girls, man up.
