Albion's young Irish hotshot Aaron Connolly is, of course, garnering an increasing amount of attention following his streak of scoring goals not just for the U-23s but at international level for the Republic of Ireland U-17s (for whom he is the leading scorer - with 7 goals - for the two stages of qualification thus far). Even the Argus has woken up and realised that Albion actually have an academy with young players who deserve a bit of coverage - Aaron Connolly leads the UEFA goal chart - after putting football before hurling

The ROI U-17s have qualified for the 16-team Finals that commence in Croatia on May 3rd. England U-17s commenced their 3-game Elite qualification stage in Bosnia and Herzegovina today with a 5-3 victory over the Czech Republic. Albion 1st year scholar goalkeeper Tom McGill played in goal. England face Slovenia on Saturday with the final match taking place against the hosts next Tuesday.

The ROI U-19s also start their Elite qualification stage (for the Finals that commence in Georgia on July 2nd) today when they face Italy in Belgium later this evening. In a tough group they will also play Sweden on Saturday and the hosts next Tuesday. Albion's Jayson Molumby and Danny Mandroiu are in the squad and will be hoping to play a full part.

At England U-21 level, Solly March and Christian Walton are in the squad for two friendly matches, the first in Germany tomorrow and the second in Denmark on Monday.

Henrik Bjordal (now on loan at IFK Gothenburg, of course) is in the Norwegian U-21 squad that plays two friendlies over the next few days, the first in Portugal tomorrow and the second against Russia in Marbella next Tuesday.

Just for completeness sake, Albion's on-loan Chelsea prospect Fikayo Tomori is in the England U-20 squad taking part in a friendly tournament in Brittany. However, he wasn't included in the starting line-up or on the bench for today's game against Portugal (England currently lead 2-1). Further matches follow on Saturday against France and next Tuesday against Senegal.

Both Jayson Molumby and Danny Mandroiu start for the ROI U-19s in their qualifier against Italy that starts shortly.

An excellent 2-0 win for the ROI U-19s over Italy (Jayson Molumby is no. 8, Danny Mandroiu is no. 10):-

Molumby played the whole match, Mandroiu played 84 minutes. Their next fixture is on Saturday when they face Sweden (who lost 2-1 to hosts Belgium today). Only the group winners will make it through to the summer Finals.

Just to correct this: although Tomori wasn't listed in the line-up tweet sent out by the FA, their match report indicates that he did, in fact, come on as a (presumably late) sub. England drew 2-2 as Portugal scored with the last kick of the game.

Solly and Christian are on the bench this evening:-

Henrik Bjordal is also not in the starting line-up for the Norwegian U-21s against Portugal.

Henrik Bjordal has come on as a half-time sub for Norway's U-21s against Portugal. The Portuguese currently lead 1-0.

England U-17s qualified for the Finals tournament in Croatia in May today with a 4-0 win over Slovenia. They are guaranteed to be either the group winner or one of the best 7 of the 8 runners-up (who will join hosts Croatia in the Finals). Tom McGill was an unused sub today. The final fixture is against the hosts Bosnia & Herzegovina on Tuesday.

The Republic of Ireland U-19s had a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Sweden. Jayson Molumby played the whole match; Danny Mandroiu started but was subbed off after 36 minutes (I don't know whether it was tactical or he was injured). The Irish must now beat the hosts Belgium on Tuesday and hope that Sweden don't beat Italy as only the group winners will progress to the finals in Georgia in July.

Fikayo Tomori played the whole match as England U-20s beat the hosts France 1-0 in their Brittany tournament. England face Senegal on Tuesday.

Any idea what position Tomori played?

A happy return to the England U-21 set-up this evening for Solly March as he scored England's second goal on 15 minutes in a 4-0 victory over the Danes - and what a cracking goal it was too:-

[TWEET]846411240087977985[/TWEET]

What a pity that the official report on the FA website has credited the goal to Reading's John Swift:-

Albion's other representative, goalkeeper Christian Walton, remained on the bench just as he did against Germany on Friday.

There was a short interview with Solly after the game:-

On Tuesday, it is judgement day for Jayson Molumby, Danny Mandroiu and the Republic of Ireland U-19s as they need to beat hosts Belgium (and hope that Sweden don't beat Italy) in order to progress to the Finals tournament in Georgia in July.

England U-17s have already qualified for their Finals tournament in Croatia in May and so the fixture against hosts Bosnia & Herzegovina is almost a dead rubber (although it will still affect seeding for the Finals tournament). Tom McGill will be hoping to see further action.

Henrik Bjordal will also be hoping to play a part for the Norwegian U-21 side in their friendly against Russia at the Marbella Football Center so that he can cement a place in the Norwegian squad for the 2019 UEFA European U-21 Championship qualifying which starts for them on June 12.

Finally, Fikayo Tomori could play a part in England U-20's third and final fixture in their Brittany tournament against Senegal.

If anyone is interested, here is the full match video from the high-scoring England U-17 v Czech Republic match from Thursday in which Albion's Tom McGill was the custodian between the sticks:-

England beat the hosts Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-0 today and so won all three matches. Tom McGill was an unused sub. Hopefully he'll be in the squad for the Finals tournament which takes place in Croatia from the 3rd to the 19th of May. Sixteen teams will compete in four groups of four; the draw for the Finals takes place next Monday (April 3).

Fikayo Tomori started for the England U-20 side who have just beaten Senegal 2-0 to win their tournament in Brittany.

England goals v Czech Republic on 12:54, 14:08, 18:39 (best of the bunch, great team goal, build up starts from 17:40), 49:37 and 1:09:59. Looks like they rested most of the better players today. I enjoy watching this team play. Foden and Sancho in particular look such exciting prospects.

I had no idea Tomori had switched to England.

Henrik Bjordal was not in the starting line-up for the Norwegian U-21s in their friendly against Russia at the Marbella Football Center. The Ruskies currently lead 1-0, still in the first half.

The Republic of Ireland U-19s will start their crucial qualifier against Belgium at the top of the hour. Jayson Molumby starts with Danny Mandroiu on the bench. Text commentary should be available from this link once the game gets underway.

Henrik Bjordal was a half-time substitute as Norway U-21s lost 2-0 to their Russian counterparts.

With a little over 15 minutes to play, the ROI U-19s are beating Belgium 1-0 but Sweden have just scored against Italy to go 1-0 up. The Irish need the Italians to find an equaliser if they are to make it to the Finals.

Heartbreak for Jayson Molumby and Danny Mandroiu as the Irish U-19s do what they needed to with a 1-0 win over hosts Belgium, but a 1-0 win for Sweden over Italy sends the Swedes to the Finals in Georgia in July.

The draw has been made for the UEFA European U-17 Championship Finals in Croatia which commence on May 3rd. 16 teams will take part including England (who will hopefully select Albion's 1st-year scholar goalkeeper Tom McGill as part of their squad) and the Republic of Ireland (who, injury permitting, will definitely have Aaron Connolly in their ranks - the Irish hotshot topped the qualifying campaign goalscorer list with 7 goals from 6 matches, one ahead of the competition).

England have been drawn in a group with the Netherlands, Norway and Ukraine. Their first match will be on Thursday May 4 against the Norwegians.

The Irish have been drawn against Germany, Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina with their first fixture also on Thursday May 4 (against the Serbs).

The top two teams in each of the four groups will progress to the quarter-finals.

Unfortunately Albion's Tom McGill has not been selected as part of the England U-17 squad for the UEFA European U-17 Championship Finals in Croatia which start next week.

Here's the full length video of the match. Based upon the first few seconds (Tomori is number 5), it looks like he at least started the match as the left-sided centre-back.
Classy the way French TV switched to some pundit in the studio just before we scored. They sort of mentioned something about us scoring (I think) and eventually returned to the coverage of the match - but never actually showed the goal!

I must admit I didn't watch it (except for the first few seconds to see where Tomori was playing!).
