What I don't understand is, in their statement, they claim they made the move so they don't fall any further behind. Ok, understood.

So what's your plan? Appoint a caretaker until the end of the season. Right.

surprised, remember him as a Claret and then hearing he'd gone on to decent things at Utd when he finished, was in charge of their Academy or such? Well thought of in that regard.

Same caretaker that's been sacked manager's assistant at that

“He is an exceptional coach who has a reputation within the game for being among the very best at bringing through young players, as his record at Manchester United shows. But more than that, he has a winning mentality which transmits to his players and he has achieved great success in his time at United. It’s the perfect combination. Warren has had several high-profile opportunities but wants to move back into management and it is a measure of how highly we rate him that we are making such a long-term commitment.”

- Wigan Chairman David Sharpe, 2nd November 2016

"It is unfortunate that we have made this decision but with the team in such a perilous position in the league, we need to act now because we cannot afford to fall any further behind. Results and performances have simply not been up to standard often enough in recent matches. Although we acknowledge the difficulties faced in managing a team in a league where we are competing against clubs with much larger budgets, the nature of some of our recent defeats, especially against close rivals, has fallen short in terms of what we as a club, and all our supporters, expect."

- Wigan Chairman David Sharpe, 13th March 2017

Amazing how these Chairmen and directors never seem accountable for the series of duff decisions they make that lands their clubs in the cart in the first place.

Most Wigan supporters seem delighted. They also believe Dave Whelan is still making all the decisions, not his Grandson. It seems madness to go to such trouble to bring Joyce in and sack him after four months. If you're a coach with a cushy number you should think long and hard before stepping into management.
They've got Graham Barrow back in charge till the end of the season, whose managerial record is abysmal. Promoted as Champions in May, they've made a right mess of things.

Quite. It makes you wonder whether there is any sort of strategy at all.

Oh I dunno. He was 4 months into a 3.5 year contract, I'm sure he's done very nicely out of it.

If you remember after FOUR months of Chris Hughton being manager of the Albion a LOT of DULLARDS on here were WANTING him SACKED after the miserable run of form at the end of the season. Just shows what happens if you STICK with a manager and a LONG term PLAN
