Watched him play at The Amex on Friday night against Midds and thought he looked very good, this loan move can only be a good thing as he needs to be playing more games. Hopefully one for the future.

I was hoping he'd push for a place on the bench this season, how long has he got left on his contract?

I was hoping he would feature in the next few games. He is scoring goals and assists in the u23s. And yet still doesn't get a game.

I wonder what the point of the u23s is.

Do you see this move as one to give him experience at a decent level or one with a view to a permanent move?

Absolutely no idea. All I can do is report what has appeared in the Argus over recent months, and you can make up your own mind.

July 15 2016:

[Bjordal]....is, nevertheless highly regarded both by his club and country. ...Bjordal has impressed in the short time he has been here and is one to watch.

He travelled with the first team squad to the Birmingham game on December 17 2016.

Jan 10 2017: [in Bjordal's own words]

It has been a good year, with some ups and downs. I travelled to Birmingham in a squad of 20 players. It was good to be involved and to be in the dressing room before and after the game. The game ended well too, so it was good experience for me. I was hoping to be closer to the first team and maybe have more chances, but I just have to keep fighting and working hard and hopefully a chance will come.

Jan 18 2017: [in Bjordal's own words]

I didn't come here to play too much under-23 football. I was hoping I would be close to first team level. I want to play at as higher level as possible, of course. I feel like I have made progress, but it's a promotion team. It's very difficult to come in, I know that. I came straight after they signed Anthony (Knockaert). Solly (March) was injured then and Kaz, so things looked easier. Now you have (Jiri) Skalak, Anthony, Kaz, Solly, Murph (Jamie Murphy), so now it's difficult. Anthony is a player I like to watch and learn from. He's a skilful player who likes to beat his man. I'm the same type of player and I want to do the same sort of things as him, so of course I want to train with the first team and try to see what he's doing, to be as good as him. It can be a good thing for me and a bad thing for me if the club goes up. It's more difficult to play a game when the team is top of the table but I like that challenge. It's good to be around a team who wins almost every week ... I played for my home club, Alleseund, so friends as well. I played for them in the first team for two seasons, in the top league, playing against good teams. It's not easy to compare. In the under-23 league there are good players. The stadium holds 10,000. Normally there were 7,000 maybe. It's a little bit different from playing at Crawley! It's a bit more silent than I was used to.

From the Gothenberg site (Google translate!):

"IFK Gothenburg have clearly with a new player. 20-year-old Norwegian Henrik Bjordal borrowed Brighton until this summer.

He has played in all Norwegian youth national teams. Made senior debut in Alesund already 16 years old and belongs since last ChampionChip Team Brighton. Now borrow IFK Gothenburg talented Norwegian and U21 national team player.

Sporting director Mats Gren:
- We lend him to the middle of July. What happens then we take from there. We wanted Henry already last season. A young player who is already far in his football career, but also has great potential for development. Creative and with good understanding of the game that can be used both centrally and on the edge. One point player.

We expect Henry to be ready for play already this weekend's cup match
Henrik:
- I'll surely do not rate myself, but is well a description that matches quite well. The club followed with a while and shown clearly that they want me here, feels safe. Likewise, it already has a few compatriots here in Thomas Rogne and Benjamin Zalo.

Bjordal will conduct its first training with IFK Gothenburg in the Priority Serneke Arena today 10:30. The loan agreement is valid until 16 July. Bjordal will get number 20th

Mats Gren:
- We expect Henry to be ready for play already this weekend's cup match against Norrkoping."

Looks like they might want to keep him

So he's a draw specialist who's very low on self-esteem. Probably right to get him away from the club at this crucial part of the season.

The league runs over the summer right? So presume they've signed him late pre-season and intend to at least keep him involved. If he gets in the first team there I can't see him wanting to come back here unless it's to be in and around the matchday squad. Atmosphere there is really good when full too, over 40K I think but been a couple years since I was there.

Seems a strange - and possibly negative move. If we were going to loan him, why not to a League 2 (or even a lower League 1) team in January? Maybe this is a sign that he's gone. Pity, if that's the case.
