Always liked Mr McGhee did well keeping up up with almost zero funds and then the Adam Vergo movie to Celtic for £1 million really helped

I saw the SPL goal highlights last night when Motherwell lost 5-1 at home to Dundee. It was somewhat reminiscent of our 5-1 home defeat to Stoke City under McGhee - abject. Loads leaving before half-time when the fourth Dundee goal went in.

His post-match interview as good as admitted he was a dead man walking, so news of his sacking is not surprising. Looks like his career as a league manager has come to an end - very sad.

That is a shame but sounded inevitable. Met him on holiday in France few years back - top bloke.

£1.5 million.

That gentlemen's agreement between Mark McGhee and Gordon Strachan made a huge difference and helped keep the Albion afloat at the time. We owe him a lot.

Very true. A much underrated manager in his time was Mark McGhee. (I wonder who he will want to win tonight, the Albion, or Newcastle?).

There was a video doing the rounds, of him getting sent off at Aberdeen. Took a policeman to escort him off into the stand, then he starts an argument with people filming him.

Motherwell lost 7-2 that day

One of my favourite season's ever was when McGhee was in charge in 2003/04. He got the best out of Leon Knight and even though it was League One and still at Withdean the conclusion of winning the play-off final at Cardiff was amazing. Will always have a soft spot for him.

We really have had a roller coaster existence for the last 20 years or so. There's been some great memories and what amazes me is that the spirit/bond between the fans and the club which was forged in those hard times still persists now.

Dick Knight and Mark McGhee, Micky Adams, Leon Knight (he did have a bloody good season and for a little fella, he had a great jump on him), Zamora. The baton has been passed to TB and now with CH, the feel-good factor is superb.

McGhee did a great job for us and as THPP has stated, managed to rob Celtic of £1.5 for Virgo. How vital was that to this club - we just don't know, but I'm sure it was immense.

I hope that when promotion does come that this special link between club and fans stays and that the money doesn't ruin things.

It paid the Capital Gains Tax for the sale of the Goldstone, so absolutely vital. Because of the delay in getting a new ground (thanks NIMBYs) we couldn't keep what little profit we got from the Goldstone, towards the Amex, but had to pay tax on it. HMRC wouldn't have been very forgiving, if we couldn't pay a tax bill.
