About time we got rid of this huge unelected bunch of political hangers-on.

A small advisory, reviewing body for legislation... 100 elected members, 5 year terms, max age 75, broadly proportional with HoC. With power to co-opt expertise for advice as necessary.

theres a lot to be said for non-elected revision chamber as they are all independent to a degree. needs a better method of appointment though and ensuring attendance and input outherwise forfeit the position.

Utter disgrace watching them eat their lunches was like watching a comedy sketch show - how on earth they still exist is beyond me

A truly shocking programme. Ok, so I'm a Republican anyway, but at least the Monarch's role is largely ceremonial and the power that she does have (such as refusing to give her Assent) she never uses. Those doddery old duffers play a major and crucial role in our 'democracy', and the fact they owe their lifetime position either to political patronage or incredibly in some cases STILL to an accident of birth is disgraceful.

Would like to see it populated by eminent scientists, economists, philosophers, etc.

I was quite impressed with Lord Bird at getting bugger and ponce into Hansard. And Baroness King seemed to really care about what she did, its just a shame she has gone to Youtube instead.

The hereditary peer chap was less impressive.
