Reports of panic buying in the supermarkets as stocks are so low for one of Britains favourite foods. Prices shot up by more than 50% and limits put on by Tesco (3) and Morissons (2) on how many lettuces customers can buy.



What is the food staple that you couldn't live without?

Price two weeks ago was 50p from Spain, they're now £1.40 and from the USA

Probably will be told later that it is down to Brexit. Everything else is.

Yes, I was wondering that myself. Not being allowed more than three iceberg lettuces - can't even see that being a problem!

Not entirely sure why people buy ANY lettuce at all. One of the most instantly forgettable, tasteless and completely unmissable food stuffs on the planet. Can't abide the stuff.

Little Gems - yes, it has been known.

Was up at Tescos Holmbush earlier - I didn't witness any lettuce fights in the aisles.

It's only iceberg lettuce isn't it ? Can't see the drama as it's tasteless anyway.

Failing that, I blame the vegetarians and vegans. Troublemakers.

Iceberg lettuces are tastless. I prefer Romain myself. Lidl uses British farms so haven't had the recent shortages due to bad weather in Spain. Garlic can be grown on the Isle of Wight, courgettes in Dorset etc.

They probably will now, as panic buying sets in.

The current worry is the tasteless iceberg consumers are now buying up the more refined round lettuce and us round fans are missing out.
