One of these has had a Shakespeare play written about it. The other one looks like emu high on a horrific cocktail of drugs. Should be an interesting vote.

48 hours, two beasts, one vote, pone winner. Think carefully.

The combatants:

Cassowary

Road to second round:

Group B: 3rd (17 votes)

The Cassowary needs little introduction: it looks mental, is generally shy but when provoked far enough goes crazy and will launch a wild attack at its victim, flinging itself forwards and trying to eviscerate its victim with its long, curved sharp middle claw/toe. Has plenty of supporters in the WHC fan base but has never really turned that support into any kind of success. Will this be the year it goes deep in the competition?

Vs

Shrew

Road to the second round:

Group D: tie 3rd (15 votes)

When he's not baring his fangs like in the photo, it's easy to think of the shrew as finger mouse come to life. You might think he's out of place in the WHC. It's easy to think that but if you did, you'd be wrong. Fiercely territorial the Shrew will drive off any invader of his space. He's got venom, actual venom, in his bite . He needs to eat anywhere from 50-200% his body weight every day so is a practiced killing machine and will eat every and anything in its way. They are able to kill some animals larger than themselves.

The shrew may be mouse sized but it certainly is no mouse.

It does have venom but often doesn't wait for it to act and its favourite kill move is to crush its opponents skulls. Yes it has its own kill move.

It takes on snakes, scorpions and anything that comes near it despite being pretty much blind. Would you attack a scorpion you couldn't see? Well the shrew doesn't care and goes for it, you think the cassowary is head mental, well the shrew is at least twice as mental

These are both good points. If the shrew makes it through they'll be making an appearance in its quarter final blurb.

The Cassowary is like a woman - docile most of the time but god help you if you piss it off - you'll be djsembowled .... slowly !!!! It even has it's own warning road signs telling you about it's hardness.

Cassowary versus Shrew.

Are you guys serious? All this effort to get a shortlist of the World's Hardest Animals and you've come up with a big chicken and something that comes out at night to eat worms.

****ing hell, carry on you lot

I'm backing the bird because I don't like shrews.

he'd have to be able to connect. The shrew would just side step and then have a go at it. It avoids scorpions stings easily enough

Have a go at what though, it's armour plated legs?

I'm not saying the overgrown budgie is hard but it would beat the shit out of a shrew.

only if it could catch it, and whats hard about beating up something smaller than it. If the shrew was cassowary sized then the bird would be dead in seconds
