Well, what a doozy of a contest this promises to be. A face ripper who gained a lot of fans very quickly last year against a five time finalist, double winning and current reigning champ and hall of famer. It'll be really interesting to see which way this one goes.

Two beast, 48 hours, one vote, one winner. Please THINK CAREFULLY before voting.

The combatants:

Road to the second round:

Group C: 3rd (14 votes)

The Malayan Sun Bear qualified with relative ease from what was by far this season's (and possibly ever) hardest group. Despite, or perhaps because of its lack of relative size, the Sun Bear is extremely aggressive and will attack without provocation. When it attacks it doesn't fanny around, going straight for its victim's head inflicting all kinds of horrific damage with its powerful jaws and claws. Claws which are long, curved and sickle shaped in nature, designed to cause maximum damage. This bear is also adept at climbing trees so don't bother looking to the heavens for protection.

VS

Salt Water Crocodile

Road to second round:

Group D: 1st (28 votes)

The saltwater crocodile is a legend of the WHC. He's a five time finalist, one of only two beasts to have won the tournament more than once, has back to back titles and hasn't lost in the competition since 2014. How has he achieved this? By being ridiculously badass, basically. He's outlived the dinosaurs, has the most powerful bite per square inch of any beast in the competition, can survive and indeed still thrive with missing limbs/tail, is an apex predator with a hypercarnivorous diet, catches and eats other apex predators,is equally deadly in fresh water and salt water situations, can swim far out to sea and (occasionally) have rucks with sharks, can kill on land or in water, is armour plated, is aggressive and in the death roll has its own specialised killing move.

This is tough. I'm going to have to have a think and come back.

Close one. Kind of need to see some supporting evidence, particularly for the Malayan Sun Bear here. Both have formidable weapons, but for me I want to know which creature has the bigger 'never say die' and 'fight against all odds' attitude.

Odds being stacked insanely in the Croc's favour in terms of size and strength, which makes it much harder for the Croc to be hard.

However, the one thing that impresses me about the Croc is it's ability to continue dominating even after losing a limb. And his smile is pretty mental.

Before you vote, be you a Croc or Bear fan, I urge you to read this fascinating account of a Sun Bear killing a Tiger from Albert S. Bickmore's insightful work titled 'Travels in the East Indian Archipelago' (1866).

If you plan on taking this little bear on, you'd better dig two graves. He is the definition of hard.

Game over!

Thought this would be a better match up than it turned out to be. Congratulations SWC on reaching a tenth successive quarter final. Hard luck Malayan Sun Bear.
