Former Albion favourite is being honoured at QPR on Saturday.
As well as remembering for his playing days for the Albion, did a decent job on Radio Sussex as a pundit on Albion games. :thumbsup:

I once walked past Johnny Byrne as he waited at a bus stop. I said "alright john'" , he winked and replied "alright mate". One of those inconsequential moments I'll never forget

I beleive He basically decided he didn’t like the media any more and didn’t want to be involved. Not sure if there was a specific instance or if it was over a period of time.

He was on a different course to me, but I used to see him down at the Eastbourne campus of Brighton uni on occasion (late 90s). Nice bloke.
Danny Simmonds was there too, though fewer will remember him.

Byrne was just so beautifully balanced on the pitch, he had a way of gliding effortlessly. Brilliant player. Think we had him a year or two too late

I can understand that, there are plenty of industries lots of us don't like. ;-)

He was a quality player, we gave him away, I remember going to see him silk his way round Middle road for Shoreham with George Parris later on . . .just enjoying his last few games!
