Has any team ever had 51 points at this stage and failed to gain automatic?

Be interesting to know. Not that it would mean that we are certain to go up, but be interesting if a team has ever imploded that much.

After all, 11 wins from 23 remaining games would put us on 84 points which doesn't sound that difficult really. Reading would still need 41 points to match us, which is only just less than they have achieved to date.

So no team has failed to go up from where we are then. That's one record I hope we don't break :lol:

Failing to go up from.here? Sounds like #TheDerbyWay.

More like the Ipswich way... 3 times in 17 seasons this century has a team been first to 50 points and failed to go up, twice Ipswich - although the worst collapse is Burnley in 2001-02, from 50 points after 25 games to 75 after 46 and missing out on the play-offs :(

but do it in 24 games or quicker and you're golden :)

first to 50;

Is the difference between success & failure as basic as keeping your best players on the pitch or is there more to it than tgat

Sorry What?
For some reason, probably to do with jet lag and beer, I have no idea what your post is about. But I desperately want to understand it as my nerves are shot.

So Reading and Wolves didn't get automatics, then?

Apologies. It was merely to show the fate of the clubs that had reached 50 points at this week in the season as well as after 23 games. I should have stated that.

It appears that only Reading missed out after having 50 points by this day. None have missed out after having 50 points from 23. The records go back to 2005/06.

Fair enough - no problem, and no apology needed. Stats, eh?

I think we can all agree that 51 points from the first half of the season is pretty f*ck*n' good! Winning half of the rest, and picking up a few draws, should do it from now (although I'd like us to push for 100 points please).

I think that there may have been a pitch invasion at Reading when they reached the half century...

Yes, pretty rotten for Wigan Athletic as they were leading with little time remaining. It wasn't brought about by a change of manager either.
