Good win for Bees last night at Bristol C. but Reading beaten at Leeds. The two sides now have identical goal tallies, 27/27, but Reading are still 3rd whilst Bees are 14th!

Other weird stats (which may change a little after the two games to play):

Brighton and Newcastle have GD's of +20 and +25, no either side except Fulham (+10) has plus double figures. Rotherham has -26, Cardiff -11, no other side has minus double figures, but QPR have -9 before tonight.

Huddersfield in 4th and Brum in 7th have conceded more than scored. Wigan in 23rd have conceded 5 fewer goals (before tonight) than Reading or Brum! Albion on top have scored 1 less goal than Forest on 16th.

Goes to show that it's the results that matter, but Albion must have a good chance to keep a high GD + now, worth an extra point.

Your final sentence is undoubtably true. With the gulf in goal difference, we are effectively nine points ahead of third place, not eight. The league table makes magnificent viewing at the moment.

It's just a weird league again. To stand a chance of automatic promo, you have to stand out from the crowd and not just give and share points amongst those mid-table teams. Agree that this year there are some remarkable stats cropping up. I think the one about Forest proves how important a strong defence is - Chris Hughton has made one and it's fantastic.

Have been offline for a couple of days, amazed to hear that Brum have sacked Gary Rowett. Is the whole managerial system out of control now, they need some kind of lock-in factor - a managerial transafer window for example?

Blimey now Zola. Didn't see that coming.

Just thought, suppose they banned clubs from replacing managers unless they were in the bottom half of the table. Then you could get owners telling their players to throw matches.

The fact that 3rd and 4th have a sterile goal difference is rather strange.
