I never have followed the history of what is going on there,for me N/S has a more common earthy feel where T/M a rather slick mass market aim ?? Aye, a very brief & simplistic history would be that Motown softened their records to gain airtime on American radio stations ( & also toned down the dancing by black artists so as to appear on TV shows ) while most Northern Soul records were mostly produced in small studios & released on labels who kept faith with their original sound, thereby being declined wide airplay & consequently sales, which is why few NS records were commercial successes.

Very much so. In recent years i've been to Northern Soul nights as far north as Edinburgh & all the way down to the Volks in Brighton.

Each weekend there are NS do's all over the north west ( & other parts of the country ) ranging from records being played in a pub -often a mix of NS & motown - to NS nights in clubs till 2am or even some alnighters, right up to the holiday camp weekenders attended by thousands. Fortunately there is a younger generation - originals' kids, scooter clubs, etc - who are keeping the interest & the numbers up.
