It really is remarkable how many celebrities have passed this year. That section they always have at the end of the "year in review" is going to take up half the running time for the show.

Another sad loss. RIP.

Heard about his illness the other week. He wasn't kidding about having "the full English" then. Very quick.

A great writer. I too found his caustic style a bit much sometimes, but bloody hell, he was good.

RIP

Sorry to hear he's passed. Didn't care much for his writing but 62 is no age, it must be horrible for his family to have lost him.

It's just a normal year for celebrity deaths. But everytime someone dies it's become Cliche to say 2016. Be warned, there will be loads of celebrity deaths in 2017,18 etc too!

It's not normal actually. There was an explosion of celebrities from the 60's with wider user of media. Those people are all of a certain age now and this is the new norm. Yes we will have the same if not more in the future but we need to get used to it as before the last few years, most celebrities were not of the dying age.

It's not. If anything it's just we are better informed...as soon as anyone dies ping ping ping, social media and texts are alive (no pun intended) with 'have you heard...' followed by 'isn't 2016 such a terrible year blah blah'. And of course, there's the definition of celebrity...

This is a tragedy. Into which restaurant reviewers soup course are waiters going to add some salty relish now? Michael Winner has gone, and now Gill.

Man dies of cancer what a laugh eh? I'm sure you continue to contribute to society far more than he ever did...

Agree with nibble and Ruislip. I imagine he was a fun bloke in real life, certainly wrote with vigour and seemed to enjoy life.
