That'll have them down to the bare bones of just the 87 players that would get into any other Championship side. Tough.

I'm half way through writing up an NSC article, about exactly this. Should be posted up tomorrow. Not just Newcastle affected, either.

(Newcastle lose three players who are important - Diame, Atsu and Mbemba, plus Lazaar who is a fringe player, and possibly Tiote, who they barely ever call on).

It's from 16th Jan to 7th Feb so potentially four games affected. They all play for different nations, though.

Or hasn't he decided whether he plays for the Netherlands or Ghana yet ?

From the squad meet up dates to the final its actually 6 rounds of Championship matches, plus 1 or 2 FA Cup games.

Looking at the draw, Senegal have a tough group and aren't guaranteed a QF spot (Diame)
Ghana should progress (Atsu)
DRC have a fair chance (Mbemba) I would say it's between between them and Morocco (Lazaar) to join Ivory Coast (Tioté)

Rested 5 last week and lost at home to Blackburn. Every little helps if they lose a few players.

Let's hope Bong doesn't get called up for Cameroon then

He has said previously that he won't play for them unless there are some fundamental changes made. Not sure what the current situation is:

Bong, 27, told The Argus: "I made the choice when I was in Greece. Things were complicated with the national team and I am the kind of player that likes respect.

"When you don't see one or two things I prefer to say 'Okay, I'll keep my distance'.

"When it is all fixed if they call me I will go to help my country because I love my country. But the football in Africa is not simple. We need to do a lot of things to change the mentality and how African football is.

"It was before the World Cup (2014 in Brazil) and it's not because they didn't call me. After the World Cup I spoke with the manager but some things need to stay private. I didn't go with the national team for one or two reasons and if I didn't see the difference I prefer to give the best for my club and stay 100 per cent.

Thanks - I didn't realise that. Good news
