Delighted that they appear to have rejected Sarkozy. Will Fillon beat Le Pen, do you think?

Le Pen will likely win the first round, but the Socialists will then support Fillon to keep her from power

That is the sort of logic that said that Remain will win, and that a combination of metropolitan elite, blacks and Hispanics will ensure Hillary gets in.

Fillon or Juppe have one major problem: they both support policies that make a lot of sense to improve France's structural employment problems and reduce the size of public spending (2nd highest in EU as % GDP). Very sensible but it ain't exactly a vote winner if you are employed in public sector.

They also represent a sytem that has not changed for a long time - a sort of stitch up to keep unpopular parties (i.e FN) out. Sound familiar?

I have a hunch that the sort of populism that UK & US has seen may carry day for MLP. She has the disadvantage that three parties dont run together in the final run-off so the other two ganging up against her may be too much. But there is a deep feeling of malaise in France that I felt worth a ton on MLP at 3/1 last week.

The big difference is that Leave and Trump were all polling in mid to late 40s and were running very close to the opposition. Le Pen is polling mid-20s and will do really, really well to get a whole lot more.

Her father did well enough to get into the run-offs but lost by the biggest margin ever in a French presidential election. When given the choice, the people voted for l'escroc and not le facho. And if it's Fillon, they won't even have to hold their noses and vote for the crook this time

He's the obvious choice so will clearly loose just like with Brexit and Trump. Seriously glad to not live in that part of the world for a while while you all sort this out....... it wouldn't happen in Germany............ right? Or is that 2017 too?

. Just like they supported staying in Europe here and for Hilary Clinton in the US? If we've learned one thing from this year it is that you cannot take people's votes for granted anymore. Make no mistake, Le Pen could win this election and that would be a disaster for France and for Europe.
